FP2172 : Safety, efficacy and outcomes of dacryocystorhinostomy with circumosteal injection of mitomycin c

Abstract

Study design- A prospective, interventional, consecutive case series
Purpose-To assess safety and efficacy of circumosteal injection of mitomycin C Dacryocystorhinostomy and to evaluate outcomes
Methods-200 DCR surgeries performed over a period of 2 years from March 2021 to March 2023.All patients underwent intramucosal injection of 0.02% of MMC at 4 points(0.1ml at each point) along the edges of freshly created ostium and analysed the anatomical and functional success, ostium morphology and complications.Detailed history, thorough ocular examination along with standard lacrimal workup done.
Results-MMC significantly improved functional and anatomical outcomes .MMC use resulted in larger ostium size and decreased granulation tissue formation.
Conclusions- COS-MMC is effective and safe adjunctive modality in DCR .This is very effective in cases of high risk of failures like revision DCR and traumatic Secondary acquired NLD obstruction.
