Abstract

In this prospective study, 17 eyes of 13 patients with mild to moderate open angle glaucoma underwent phacoemulsification with iStent Inject (Glaukos Corporation, Laguna Hills, CA). All the surgeries were done by a single experienced surgeon. Post operative follow-ups were conducted every week for 6 weeks followed by 3 and 6 month. Primary outcome measures included Intraocular pressure (IOP), impact on antiglaucoma medications and best corrected visual acuity.
Postoperatively at 6 months, mean IOP decreased from 16.87±5.58 to 14.12±2.09 mmHg which was statistically significant (p=0.001). Of the 17 eyes , only 2 eyes (11.76%) required continued antiglaucoma medications postoperatively. Mean reduction in number of antiglaucoma medications was found to be 1.43 which was statistically significant (p<0.001). There were no intra-operative or post-operative complications noted. iStent Inject implantation with phacoemulsification is thus a safe and effective procedure.
