FP1894 : Efficacy & safety of Ozurdex implant versus Triamcinolone 2 mg at the end of Pars Plana Vitrectomy

Abstract

Purpose: Depot steroids have been used at the end of vitrectomy. Conventionally triamcinolone(TA) crystals are used. A lacunae in knowledge exists regarding efficacy and safety of using ozurdex compared to TA.
Method: Prospective comparative study with participant blinding and randomisation. Sample size: 17. Consecutive patients of ERM, PDR, Retinal Vasculitis and RRD. Parameters studied:BCVA, need for topical steroids, CMT, and complaints of floaters.
Results: N=37, 19 in Gp 1 (received Ozurdex) and 18 in Gp 2 (received TA). The BCVA improvement and CMT reduction was statistically significant in both. Gp 1 performed better at 12 weeks. Gp 1 read lesser topical steroids and patient’s complaints of floaters. Ocular Hypertension seen in 3 cases in Gp 1 and 07 in Gp 2. One case in Gp 1 required wound suturing.

Conclusion: Ozurdex implant is safe at the end of PPV and gives advantages of long-term CME prevention and BCVA gains. The single floater of Ozurdex is better tolerated.
