Abstract

This is a retrospective observational study of the effectiveness of PST injection given as a stand-alone or additional steroid cover for cataract surgery in uveitic eyes. We excluded eyes with advanced glaucoma, known steroid responders, and eyes with infectious uveitis. Patients were followed up on day 1 and post-op day 30. Inflammation was graded according to SUN classification. Primary outcomes were control of inflammation and the presence of cystoid macular odema. secondary outcomes were improvement in visual acuity and complications. Patients who received PST injections had post-op inflammation control and cystoid macular edema comparable to conventional systemic steroid prophylaxis. The most common complication was steroid response. We concluded that posterior Subtenon Triamcinolone is comparable to conventional systemic steroid prophylaxis for surgery in eyes with uveitic cataract
