FP2450 : A rare case of Orbital Schwannoma with Cavernous Sinus Involvement

Abstract

We present a rare case of Orbital Schwannoma with cavernous sinus involvement in a 53-year-old male who had presenting with progressive proptosis, pain and visual loss in his right eye for six months. MRI showed a retrobulbar tumor extending to the orbital apex and right cavernous sinus. The tumor was excised through a right fronto-temporal craniotomy and histopathology confirmed spindle cell neoplasia invading adjacent fibrous tissue. The patient had partial improvement of proptosis and vision postoperatively. After 6 weeks of postoperative day the patient had dramatic improvement of proptosis as well as vision This case highlights the importance of early diagnosis and surgical intervention of orbital schwannoma. It is a rare type peripheral nerve sheath tumor. It is a benign tumor that can cause significant morbidity due to its location and extension
