FP2269 : A Case Of Dermoid Cyst Of Right Eye Masquerading As Ptosis

Abstract

Study design: Case report
Purpose: To introduce clinical, radiographic and histopathologic features of a dermoid cyst.
Methods: We report a case of a 28 year old male presented with drooping of and swelling in right upper eyelid with a firm, tender lesion gradually increasing in size, free from skin and adherent to orbital margin. His BCVA was 6/6, N6 in both eyes.Rest anterior and posterior segments of both eyes and systemic evaluation were in normal range.
Results: Radiological imaging revealed a well defined heterogenous hyperintense lesion in Supero-temporal aspect of right orbit.Excisional biopsy was performed. Histopathology shows perivascular lymphoplasmacytic aggregates, few hair shaft like foreign body type giant cells and thrombosed blood vessels suggesting dermoid cyst.
Conclusion: A dermoid cyst is a congenital choristoma of the orbit which is a benign tumor consisting of histologically normal cells occurring in an abnormal location.
