Abstract

Study Design:
A case report of patient presenting in Emergency department at a tertiary eyecare hospital.
Purpose :
Eyelid injuries including laceration and accidental injury form a major bulk of the ocular trauma that is seen in accident and emergency department , the pediatric age group being the most vulnerable for the same.
Methods :
A 3 year old boy sustained injury to left lower eyelid with Pigtail rod while playing .
Post injury , rod stuck the left lower eyelid – at junction of medial two third and lateral one third . Patient was administered stat injectable antibiotics, painkiller , and tetanus toxoid injection.
Thorough examination was done. The rod was removed in a way it did not pierce the lower lid , thus avoiding iatrogenic lower lid laceration. In this case , fortunately there was no Eyelid laceration , and globe was intact.
Results:
Careful exploration of the wound and examination of the globe and adnexal structures is quintessential in any case of eyelid trauma.
