FP1541 : Role Ganglion Cell Analysis in the management of Glaucoma

Abstract

Purpose: Better understanding of Ganglion layer analysis for diagnosing and treatment of glaucoma patients.
Methodology: We studied 100 patients which included glaucoma suspects and established cases. Patients underwent comprehensive ophthalmic examination, fundus photography, standard automated perimetry which includes 24-2 and 10-2, OCT of Optic Nerve Head & RNFL analysis and macula for ganglion cell analysis.
Results: What we observed was functional loss assessed by automated perimetry in 10-2 fields test depicted by relative scotomas appears when the sectoral ganglion thickness goes below on average of 60 microns. Also absolute scotomas are seen on 10-2 perimetry when ganglion thickness goes below on average of 45 microns .
Conclusion: One should remember that OCT is not about colour coding it is more about numbers with respect to microns of thickness.
