FP2374 : Comparison of different techniques used in attaching of conjunctival autograft in pterygium surgery.

Abstract

Study:Retrospective.Purpose:Comparison of use of fibrin glue, sutures and autologous blood in placing the conjunctival autograft in reference to surgical time, postoperative discomfort and recurrence on follow up.Methods:30 patients taken and divided into 3 groups. In group I graft is attached with fibrin glue, group II with sutures and group III autologous blood. All 3groups were compared in terms of surgical time, postop discomfort, and recurrence.Result:Average surgical time taken with fibrin glue, sutures and blood around 30 mins,60 and 40mins respectively.Pain and foreign body sensation were seen in all cases of Group II on 1st postop day and in Group III and Grp I found in few cases. On follow up of 6 months,1case of recurrence was seen in Grp II and III.No recurrence in group I.Conclusion:Fibrin glue remains the most effective method for attaching autograft in pterygium surgery with less surgical time and postop discomfort.Autologous blood is alternative and sutures an older technique.
