FP1385 : Clinic-based Survey of Indian ophthalmologists for Dry eye Prevalence and Preferred practice pattern

Abstract

Purpose: To understand prevalence, risk factors and treatment modalities for Dry eye Disease (DED) among Indian ophthalmologists from 20 states
Methods: 23-multiple-choice question online survey provided to 112 ophthalmologists
Results: 103 ophthalmologists completed the survey. 40% ophthalmologists managed >50 DED cases/ month. 80% of ophthalmologists ranked meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) followed by digital eye strain (DES) as leading cause and 47% ranked foreign body sensation as most common symptom of dry eye. CMC 1%, Sodium Hyaluronate (HA), and PEG/PG/HP-Guar and HA combination were preferred by 24%, 30% and 45% ophthalmologists for mild, moderate and severe DED, respectively. Various tear substitutes are used for managing dryness due to DES, MGD and menopause.
Conclusion: This survey reveals present practices for treating DED severity, populations and causes like DES, cataract surgery, and MGD.
