FP0452 : Bilateral ectropion in collodion baby: A rare scenario

Abstract

3 day old male child was referred for management of bilateral ectropion. An appropriate-for-gestational-age boy was born at 39 weeks gestation by LSCS with an unremarkable pregnancy. The baby had bilateral ectropion of both upper and lower eyelids with no evidence of corneal opacities or keratitis. The ears were small, low set and underdeveloped with flattened nose. There was slight eclabium and the mouth was constantly open like a fish. The whole body had parchment-like membrane resembling collodion and was peeling off on the entire body including face. Skin biopsy showed epidermal hyperkeratosis and preservation of granular layer. The baby was managed conservatively with regular use of antibiotics and lubricants and kept on weekly follow up to monitor any corneal involvement. Emollients were advised for skin softening and moistening. Although we have managed the ectropion conservatively, we planned for surgical intervention at the first indication of any corneal involvement.
