FP0423 : A rare case of female collodion baby

Abstract

Study design: Case report
Purpose: To report ocular findings in a female collodion baby
Methods: A 20 day old neonate was referred from NICU as a case of Icthyosis with eye involvement. On examination there was a yellowish parchment like covering over the skin with peeling of skin over face and other flexor areas. On ocular examination, there was bilateral UL and LL ectropion, inability to close the eyes with chemosis without corneal involvement. For ophthalmic involvement child was started on intensive lubricating treatment. Parents were explained about need for urgent visit on first sign of corneal involvement like redness, watering and discharge.
Results: At 2 months, child appeared clinically better with regression of membrane and decrease in grade of ectropion and was advised to continue treatment
Conclusion: Colloidon babies require multidisciplinary approach. Eye involvement in collodion babies is a rare finding and needs vigilant monitoring with parent counselling.
