FP2821 : A Salvaged case of Advanced Diabetic Retinopathy in Type 1 Diabetes.

Abstract

Study design: Case Report
Purpose:To report a case of Type 1 DM with Advanced PDR in a young male.
Methods: A 22-year-old male with a known history of type 1 diabetes mellitus presented with severe diminution of vision in both eyes. The patient had undergone vitreoretinal surgery in RE and pan-retinal photocoagulation in LE at a tertiary centre 15 days back. His BCVA was HM in RE and 6/12 in the LE. RE Fundus revealed dispersed vitreous haemorrhage and the LE Fundus showed gross NVD with the fibrovascular proliferation over arcades sparing macula. The patient underwent vitreous lavage and endolaser in the RE. Intraoperatively, there was profuse haemorrhage, which was left in situ to give it time to clot and the globe was closed with silicone oil tamponade. On POD 1, a large pre-retinal haemorrhage was noted over the disc. The patient underwent a 2nd stage surgery after 1 week for silicone oil removal, clots removal and Re-SOI. On POD 7, RE retina was on with BCVA 1/60.
