Abstract
Introduction – Various pathological process may lead to clinically significant opacification manufactured from different biomaterials and in different designs. The complication maybe observed intraoperatively or postoperatively from a few hours after implantation to many years after surgery, depending on the process involved.
Purpose – To study a case of post operative IOL opacification.
Materials and methods – A 70-year-old patient who had undergone cataract surgery left eye 10 years ago now complains of diminution of vision of left eye. Visual acuity was 6/60(p) for the left eye. On slit lamp examination, intraocular lens opacity was seen. So, the patient was planned for IOL extraction and secondary implantation of IOL was done and the visual acuity improved to 6/12p at the end of 6 week and previous material of lens have been submitted for evaluation.
Conclusion – The cause of the opacification is deposits of calcium and phosphate occurring inside and on the surface of optics
