VT0153 : Intravitreal injections – no more the forte of vitreo-retina surgeons and righteously so!

Abstract

Intravitreal injections have become synonymous with the management of ophthalmological, especially posterior segment pathologies. The list of indications is ever-growing which includes use of anti-VEGFs in wet-AMD, diabetic macular edema, PCV, CRVO/BRVO with ME, CNVM; use of steroid implants or IVTA in uveitis, pseudophakic macular edema – to name a few.
With the rising number of molecules and preparations, and new approvals by authorities for several indications – it becomes need of the hour that every ophthalmologists should be able to inject intravitreal drugs. This is further highlighted in the context of limited accessibility and availability of VR specialists in our country. The need for intravitreal antibiotics during an acute endophthalmitis must not be delayed and should be given by the primary cataract surgeon as a first intervention before referral. Therefore we have created this video for learning the correct method, preparation and technique of intravitreal injections.
