VT0152 : To settle or not to settle – that is the question! The battle for a year old narrow-funnel RD.

Abstract

A 60 year old lady presented with diminution of vision in RE for last 1 year. She thought it was due to a developing cataract. Sought opinion 3 months ago, advised surgery under very guarded prognosis. Multiple consultations later, patient reached us and was diagnosed with old retinal detachment with PVR (both anterior and posterior with a narrow funnel. Peripheral retinal thinning was also noticed and patient was a myope.
Detailed discussion with the patient was held, including need for multiple surgeries and higher chances of failure along with anatomical and functional outcomes. Being a tertiary referral setting and refusal/non-committal to outcome during previous consultations – patient agreed to undergo surgery.
Pars-plana vitrectomy was performed with 240 style band-buckle. The membraned peeling was extensively done with IVTA and BBG staining, anterior PVR was also tackled and silicone oil was injected. Retinal settled post-operatively and remains settled at 6 months follow-up.
