VT0111 : Intraocular foreign body removal with pars plana vitrectomy

Abstract

This video shows 2 cases of post traumatic intraocular retained iron foreign body along with traumatic cataract and corneal tear in the first case. Three port pars plana vitrectomy was performed in both the cases. In first case, a suture was applied on corneal tear to maintain the intraocular stability and traumatic cataract was aspirated with vitrectomy cutter before vitrectomy and then 5mm x 3mm foreign body, which was embedded into the retina, was removed via sclerocorneal triplanar tunnel (best corrected visual acuity at 1 month was 3/60). In second case, 2mm x 2mm foreign body, which was on the retinal surface, was removed via vitrectomy port, using the micromagnet forceps, after enlarging it with 20G MVR blade. Endolaser and silicone oil implantation was performed in both the cases to provide retinal stability (best corrected visual acuity at 1 month was 6/60)
