Abstract
Purpose: This is an epidemiological study done to assess the frequency of ocular morbidity among paediatric population of slum areas of Bangalore, Karnataka
Material and methods: Permission for the project & list of government recognised slum areas obtained from Karnataka Slum Development Board, Bangalore. All slum area were marked on a Bangalore city map. Slum areas were randomly selected by pencil drop method. The route map for the survey was made.Children with minor problems were treated on the field itself and 14 children were referred to higher centre for further evaluation.
Result: We examined around 2248 childrens. Out of them 147 (6.5%) children had ocular morbidity due to various reasons like refractive error, allergic conjunctivitis, VKC, CNLDO etc.
Conclusion: Through this study we seek to creat awareness on methods for conducting an epidemiological study & to emphasize its importance to treat preventable causes of blindness in vulnerable population.
