Abstract

The event PENTATHLON, the power of five, was conceptualised by Dr Doel Biswas and Dr Sugato Paul . It is an event where 5 teams , each comprised of 5 members, compete in 5 events for 5 minutes (each event 1 minute) and judged by 5 judges. The events are : 1 minute video, 1 minute rapid fire quiz, 1 minute extempore speech, 1 minute unscrambling ophthalmic words and 1 minute to identify celebrity eye.

OPHTHALMIC PENTATHLON RULES:

1 MINUTE VIDEO :
1) 1-minute scientific video ( original work by presenter)
2) Marked by judges
3) Marking on: 25 marks judged on Content, Quality of video, Presentations, Time Impact & Wow Factor

1 MINUTE RAPID FIRE QUIZ:
1) 10 Questions in all
2)10 marks for right answer
4) Minus 5 marks for wrong answer
5) As many of the 10 questions you can answer in 1 minute

JUST-A-MINUTE EXTEMPORE SPEECH:
1) Speak nonstop for 1 minute
2) Topic you will pick from chits just 30 seconds before you start
3) You have to speak on the topic whether you agree with it or not
4) No repetition of sentences, no pauses
5) Topics will be non-academic but related to medical science
6) Marked by judges- 25 marks
7) Marked on:Content (how closely you follow topic) & Eloquence

SCRAMBLE UNSCRAMBLE:
1) 10 ophthalmic words will jumbled up
2) unscramble and Identify as many terms as you can within 1 minute
4) 5 marks for every correct answer
5. No negative marking

IDENTIFY – THE – CELEBRITY EYE
1) 1 pair of eyes will be shown
2) If you can guess the celebrity from the eyes you score 25 marks
3) If you cannot guess, a small strip of the face will be exposed
4) In total there will be 5 strips and with each exposure, marks you can score decrease by 5
5) Minus 5 marks for a wrong guess
