Indian Armed Forces is the largest employer in India with a unique job profile leading to high incidence of trauma . Also most AF personnel serve in remote locations as well as inhospitable terrains like high altitude, open sea, underwater injuries and remote locations which require high standards of VA, colour vision and ocular structures which can withstand vagaries of these terrain.
Hence it is imperative to recruit individuals with visual and ocular standards which allow them to serve in these tough conditions at high level of alertness with minimal reaction times. Also ocular conditions which may not cause any problems in normal circumstances may become life threatening to self and colleagues in these difficult terrain.
The CI and all the instructors are all trained in various ocular sub specialties and have experience of serving in high conflict zones & have been instrumental in formulating the guidelines and SOPs of recruitment in settings of Armed Forces.
