Abstract
Study design: Retrospective observational
Purpose: To analyse the long-term ocular complications of Vogt Koyanagi Harada (VKH) disease.
Methods: Retrospective analysis of newly presented VKH cases with a follow-up duration of ≥ 3 years at a referral clinic.
Results: 122 eyes of 61 patients were included. The mean age was 36.39 ± 12.98 years with 45 (73.8%) being females. Mean follow-up duration was 73.10 ± 58.53 months. Cataract was present in 64.8% eyes, posterior synechiae in 34.4%, glaucoma in 34.4%, bullous RD in 22.1%, CME in 21.3%, subretinal fibrosis in 18%, CNVM in 13.1% and macular scar in 9% eyes. Dose limiting complications developed in 34.2% and 26.1% patients with IMT and systemic steroids respectively. Following treatment, vision improved from 0.65 ± 0.76 logMAR at baseline to 0.50 ± 0.78 at last visit (p<0.001).
Conclusion: Majority (92.6%) of the eyes developed some ocular complication after a follow-up period of 3 years. With timely treatment, visual prognosis is good.
