Purpose:Rare demonstration of complete limbal ischaemia following electric shock
Methods:A 72-year-old male came to emergency with superficial and deep facial burns.He accidentally fell from terrace on 11KV live wire 1 day ago.Bedside visual acuity was no perception of light in right and counting finger 50cm in left eye.Examination showed lid margin charring,severe lid edema,chemosis and moderate corneal haze in both eyes.Right eye had severe thermal coagulative injury leading to 360̊ limbal ischaemia,dilated fixed pupil and total cataract.Left eye had sluggish pupil reaction and limbal ischaemia in superotemporally from 1 to 3 O'clock hour.
Results:Treated with topical steroid,antibiotic,cycloplegic and lubricating agents.
Conclusion:Severity of electric injury depends on type and strength of current,duration of exposure and amount of resistance to flow from body tissues.Timely intervention and regular follow ups are important for better visual outcome.
