FP0995 : Analysis of ocular trauma in a Govt. Medical College during the lockdown period- An Ocular Odyssey

Abstract

Study Design: A retrospective study. Purpose: Analysis of ocular trauma and its association with demographic parameters in patients reporting for ocular emergency at a Govt. Medical College in East India. Method:Data of patients presenting over a period of 1 year (2021) was collected from hospital database.Ocular trauma cases with GCS≥ 9 were included. Mechanical trauma was classified according to BETT. Results: 5378 patients attended for ocular emergency. Ocular trauma was noted in 1011 (18.8%); M:F being 2:1.Majority (48.4%) had a rural background & low socioeconomic status(68.3%). Highest prevalence was in 21-30 yr age group(27.2%). Commonest cause was road traffic accident(39.1%) followed by physical assault(30%). Physical assault was more(P<0.001) among females(59.8%), mostly being domestic abuse, compared to males(14%).Open globe injury was seen in 22.3%. Conclusion: High prevalence of domestic abuse on females was observed during lockdown. RTA was common even during this period.
