Abstract
Purpose:To evaluate prevalence of anisometropia, anisometropic amblyopia and its effect on distant & near stereopsis in children aged 6-15 years.Methods:Prospective observational study recruited 200 children presenting to Pediatric Ophthalmology at tertiary eye centre in South India, diagnosed with anisometropia of ≥1D. If included,the child took WFD test for assessing BSV, TNO test for near, and distant Randot test for distant stereopsis followed by detailed examination.Results:Of all school-going children who visited our hospital during study period, 6118 were diagnosed with refractive error.200 had anisometropia ≥1D (3.3% prevalence),40.8% anisometropic amblyopia. The prevalence was higher in children of ≤8 yr..Increasing magnitude of anisometropia increases depth of amblyopia disrupting BSV resulting in loss of stereopsis,earlier for distance than near.Children with SE>4D showed worse stereopsis.Conclusion: As the amount of anisometropia increases the depth of amblyopia increases
