FP0581 : Pole to pole, economizing pediatric imaging

Abstract

Purpose: An economical solution in imaging the pediatric eye (anterior and posterior segment) without general anesthesia.
Methods: For imaging newborn -12 years of age, we used 3 DIY devices – anterior segment photography with intraocular lens(ASPI), ASPI with cobalt blue filter(SCOOBY)and Trash-To-Treasure Retcam(T3R), which can be made by recycling hospital waste and with an additional investment of less than 1000 rupees.
Results: Imaging with ASPI and SCOOBY were done for 62 eyes in children who did not cooperate for slit lamp examination/documentation, for trauma, cataract, lens subluxation, coloboma, limbal dermoid, anterior segment features of advanced retinoblastoma.T3R was used to document fundus findings in 81eyes, for ROP, retinochoroidal coloboma, peripheral degenerations, RD, macular scars, retinal dystrophies, albinotic fundus.
Conclusions: Images were used as part of the examination, documentation and for referral to subspecialty clinic
