Abstract
A 13-year-old boy presented with diminution of vision in the right eye for 1 month. He was diagnosed with hypopyon uveitis. His uveitis workup was negative. His vision in the right eye was PL, there were iris nodules, large mutton fat keratic precipitates, hypopyon, and total cataract. USG revealed dense, hyper-reflective echoes with membrane-like echoes. Blood,urine and AC tap samples were sent for culture. Smooth, grayish colonies with Gram-variable rods. The organism could not be identified by routine biochemical tests and the VITEK 2 D/AST system. The child underwent lensectomy + vitrectomy and vitreous aspirate was collected.16S rRNA gene sequencing was performed.The bacterium was identified as Paenibacillus lautus. The patient developed RD with a break in the temporal quadrant 2 weeks later. The patient underwent endo laser and silicone oil tamponade. At 4 months, the aphakic correction was 6/12, N12. The fundus was stable. He underwent oil removal and sulcus IOL implantation.
